The island is 'small enough that you can' turn into a single base , we stayed by Patti Pantone spending $ 334.26 for four nights including breakfast and taxes. Your site and

If you book with her name and do our salutatecela, and 'a truly delightful person, if they come to Kauai definitely choose her again.
The house is' beautiful, has a beautiful lanai overlooking the ocean in the morning and have breakfast while enjoying the view from its large window.
the room and 'clean, organized and spacious and the breakfast and' good: we ate every morning with fresh papaya and pineapple, fruit juice, toast with butter and jam, coffee 'and milk, but if we were cornflakes , muffins, you '... really recommend. There 's wireless, but in any case we Patti willingly lent his computer.
not miss my opinion on the island:
Lumahei beach, a beach North, which is our golden palm island.
The cruise along the Na Pali Coast: If, as we travel from December to April, you could see the whales!
The Kalalau Trail: take care sturdy shoes for walking it, enough of sneakers just do not have the smooth surface. The mud makes it very slippery, so get out of his head the idea to do it with plastic flip-flops, you might be hurt! Bring plenty of water and even sunscreen: and 'almost everything under the sun.
April 10, 2009
Our flight landed from San Francisco to Kauai in a pouring rain.
Having retired at the Alamo one of the economy more 'bad ever seen (a chevrolet aveo ... no comment, fortunately it was almost new!) we move to our accommodation. Given the heavy
time zone and the long journey we wanted to spend the day lying on a beach but given the crazy weather (the sun alternates with violent downpours that last a few minutes) we decide to change our plans.
After two quick sandwiches from Subway (7.61 €), we find our bed and breakfast thanks to the valuable information that Patti had emailed us.
We have with us a navigator, but Patti had advised us not to use it 'cause we would have lost and decide to trust. We find no difficulty 'her beautiful home in a residential neighborhood in Kalaheo, in the south. Our room and 'ready, and we discover that we share the room next to his own, in the main house. It 's a beautiful room, very spacious, with a very nice and a library full of all sorts of books at our disposal.
The thing that amazes us, and 'that Patti does not give us' no key: it says that we can when we return, as in all of Kauai so you do not lock the door ever, it 'the day or' night. Lucky them!
After settling quickly, take the two salviettoni beach and decide to leave immediately to explore the north coast.
time is crazy all day, but not ruin the rugged beauty of this part of Kaui, a dense and lush tropical vegetation covers the whole part of this island in the middle to which there are white sand beaches mostly 'empty.
We come to the edge of the road, Kokobeach to look at the part where the Kalalau Trail that we want to do one the next day.
Towards half past five the time gets the better of our urge to run: as we struggle to keep my eyes open, keep driving and 'least risky and we decided to go back to Patti.
On the way back we stopped for dinner in advance at Korean BBQ on Kuhio highway, after Waipouli Beach in advance for us, but Americans eat so early and the local 'already' full. We spend 14.21 € for two meat dishes, good (at least mine, the choice of Luciano proves less fortunate) and abundant.
When we return to our B & B, despite the fatigue, we can not but admire the stars that fill the sky above the roof of Patti: alone in the desert we saw before a sky so ', and we will see more' on any of the islands.
April 11, 2009 After nearly eleven hours of uninterrupted sleep, we wake up riposatissimi and ready for the day.
After breakfast, first go to Port Allen, to book the cruise of the Napali Coast we want to do in the afternoon. Among the companies proposed by our guide, the rough, pick up the board of Patti HoloHolo charters. The cruise departs at two and a half, so until then we are free.
decide to not turn away too, but to spend the morning in the beautiful south coast beaches. This part of the island turns out to be very different from the north: and 'more' arid, its beaches are more 'long with a golden color. In a completely different way, will end 'for our liking as well. Shrimp Station in Waimea excellent lunch near the hill to the Waimea Canyon as the name suggests, and 'just a kiosk at the roadside outside with plastic tables that serves shrimp cooked in different ways. We spend 19.06 € for two meals. Highly recommended.
At two and a half we come on time to our appointment with the Honololo Charters. The cruise there and 'cost € 137.22 for two, including an excellent dinner on board at sunset But it was' worth it. The turns and 'beautiful, one of the most' beautiful throughout the holiday. On the north coast, amidst the towering cliffs that were the backdrop to such films as King Kong and Jurassic Park III, open dream creeks only reachable by sea. The sea is teeming with whales, at one point started counting but lost count at eight 'cause we are literally surrounded. Their tails whip the heavy water a few miles from our boat, one close to us greets us with the butts emerging, giving us a vision of its grandeur.
Before returning to port is a group of dolphins playing near our boat, and 'wonderful.
conclude the day with a delicious cold dinner on board while we admire the sunset over the ocean.
just returned to port, back from Patti tired but happy for the nice day.
April 12, 2009 We wake up early at dawn, but not for us and 'the signal that we already have' absorbed the time zone. Excellent.
This morning we head north again, with the intent to do the Kalalau Trail. Doing so would require everything from 2 or 3 days, with a stop at the campsite in the middle 'way: we opt for the first two miles, a scenic trail that runs for long stretches near the ocean, opening in a very beautiful views, such as the splendid vision keke beach from above. At the end of the path we come to Hanakapi beach, a beautiful beach but insidious: a sign warns to study very carefully to strong currents.
When we come the waves are high and although there are some people on the beach no one dares adventurous in water: we too, like others we are delighted to see the power of nature and the waves lashing the sand with violence.
After we rested an hour, we take the way back, this time the sunlight makes us more 'hard walk' cause we are less fresh and slippery mud does not help but eventually we make it!
After a late lunch of excellent Hanalei Gourmet Deli (€ 20.96 for two excellent hambugher) spend the afternoon shooting a couple of beaches in the north, where the Palme d'Or is certainly Lumahei beach. It 's not easy to find, there 's a sign mark it after a bend coming from and going to Hanelei Wainiha. On the curve there is' a makeshift parking lot, where there are two or three machines. You will see a sign that will tell you 'that this is not' down to the beach: you ignore it, an easy descent takes you right there 'where you want to go!
us to remain at rock from the sun and swim for a couple of Oretta, in the midst of wild chickens in the island and 'full and three or four other people besides us.
At sunset we climb the lighthouse in use of Hanalei, to admire the panorama of the vast colony of birds living in the protected park built around the lighthouse.
Quick dinner pizza hut in Lihue (€ 13.94) before returning to B & B for a quick shower and sleep.
April 13, 1009 This morning we head back toward the southwest, we spend the morning with beautiful sandy beach Kekana, from where on a clear day like the one we find ourselves, we can see the island of Niihau, a ' private island owned by a Scottish family.
After an excellent lunch of tacos (€ 14.89) to the Island shrimp tacos in front of the station go up the Waimea Canyon Drive through the scenic Waimea Canyon, located just after the shrimp station on the right leaving Waimea. It should do that rather than follow the official information because it 's much' view: this way allows you to see the canyon formed start.
The waymea canyon and 'a pair of miniature Grand Canyon, with the same reddish color. At the end of the 26-mile drive waymea, and when it is 'Koke entered the state park, lies the lookout more' beautiful of both parks (which have very clear boundaries that divide them): the Pu u kila lookout, which provides an overview on all the beautiful Napali coast. Missed.
satisfied with their visit, we conclude the day at Poipu Beach, the most 'tourist beaches of Kauai, but very beautiful at sunset, for the stunning view across the bay to the south and calm waters for swimming. While they are a giant turtle decided to come and see the swimmers, stopping a few feet of the shore ... it 's really wonderful.
After a shower on the B & B we conclude our visit to the island back to Koloa for dinner at a restaurant who had seen the afternoon, Tom Kats grill. Take two delicious dishes of BBQ ribs (36 €), which turns out to be huge by Italian standards, we would have easily eaten in one!
Come to bed early, tomorrow morning at 6 we expect the flight to Maui.
to finish the first part .. some photos of Kauai.
